Speaker: Representative Jeff Witte, District 57BTopic: 2025 Legislative UpdateJeff Witte represents District 57B, which covers most of Lakeville. Before being elected to the House he served as a police officer and sergeant with the Burnsville Police Department for 27 years. He also served in the Lakeville Planning committee for 3 years.Rep. Witte is respected by House Democrats and Republicans alike. He has been an indefatigable advocate for law enforcement and first responders and led the charge to get resource officers into schools. He also secured the funding for Lakeville’s first responder training facility. His actions have demonstrated to police officers and first responders that they have his enduring support.
Representative Jeff Witte, MN House District 57B, believes in bringing balance back to state government; supporting students, schools, and families; and ensuring safety in our communities. He has sought financial relief for struggling families and believes mental health services should be available where needed.
He is in his second term representing most of Lakeville. Rep. Witte retired after serving 27 years with the Burnsville Police Department, including time as a school resource officer and crisis negotiator. He has earned respect on both sides of the political aisle for being a forceful and reliable advocate for law enforcement and first responders, including leading the charge to get school resource officers back in schools. He currently serves as Vice Chair of the Public Safety Committee.
Rep. Witte also launched the “Law Enforcement 365 Initiative” to show Minnesota’s first responders that we have their back 365 days a year and not just in times of tragedy. Serving on the House Tax Committee, Rep. Witte fought to eliminate the tax on Social Security benefits, increase the property tax exemption for disabled veterans, and opposed increases in the gas tax and car tab fees. A 32-year resident of Lakeville, Jeff and his wife, Jen, have three daughters who graduated from Lakeville Area Schools.
